²⁰ Ahab said to Elijah, “So, you have caught me, my enemy.”^(A)

He replied, “I have caught you because you devoted^(B) yourself to do what is evil in the Lord’s sight.

²⁵ Still, there was no one like Ahab, who devoted himself to do what was evil in the Lord’s sight, because his wife Jezebel incited him.^(A)

¹⁷ They made their sons and daughters pass through the fire^(A) and practiced divination and interpreted omens.^(B) They devoted themselves to do what was evil in the Lord’s sight and provoked Him.^(C)

⁶ For we know that our old self^[a](A) was crucified with Him^(B) in order that sin’s dominion over the body^[b] may be abolished,^(C) so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin,

³ In the same way we also, when we were children, were in slavery under the elemental forces^[a] of the world.^(A)
