6 The Israelites saw that they were in trouble. So they went to hide in caves and bushes. They also hid among the rocks and in pits and wells. 7 Some Hebrews even went across the Jordan River to the land of Gad and Gilead.
But Saul stayed at Gilgal. All the men in his army were shaking with fear. 8 Saul waited seven days, because Samuel had said he would meet him then. But Samuel did not come to Gilgal. And the soldiers began to leave.

New International Version
6 When the Israelites saw that their situation was critical and that their army was hard pressed, they hid(A) in caves and thickets, among the rocks, and in pits and cisterns.(B) 7 Some Hebrews even crossed the Jordan to the land of Gad(C) and Gilead.
Saul remained at Gilgal, and all the troops with him were quaking(D) with fear. 8 He waited seven(E) days, the time set by Samuel; but Samuel did not come to Gilgal, and Saul’s men began to scatter.
