²⁸ So the king ^[a]consulted, and he ^(A)made two golden ^(B)calves; and he said to ^[b]the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; ^(C)behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.” ²⁹ And he set up ^(D)one in ^(E)Bethel, and the other he put in ^(F)Dan.

Amos Accused; Gives an Answer

¹⁰ Then Amaziah, the ^(A)priest of Bethel, sent word to ^(B)Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has ^(C)conspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel; the land is unable to endure all his words.

¹³ But ^(A)do not prophesy at Bethel any longer, for it is a ^(B)sanctuary of the king and a royal ^[a]residence.”
