³ “Don’t harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we seal the slaves of our God on their foreheads.”

⁴ They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green plant, or any tree, but only people who do not have God’s seal on their foreheads.

¹⁶ And he requires everyone—small and great, rich and poor, free and slave—to be given a mark^[a] on his right hand or on his forehead,^(A)

The Lamb and the 144,000

14 Then I looked, and there on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with Him were 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads.^(A)

⁹ And a third angel^[a] followed them and spoke with a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand,

⁵ On her forehead a cryptic name^(A) was written:

The Saints Reign with the Messiah

⁴ Then I saw thrones, and people seated on them who were given authority to judge.^(A) I also saw the people^[a](B) who had been beheaded^[b] because of their testimony about Jesus^(C) and because of God’s word, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and who had not accepted the mark on their foreheads or their hands.^(D) They came to life^(E) and reigned with the Messiah for 1,000 years.
