³ Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,^(A)

² from the nations that the Lord had told the Israelites about, “Do not intermarry with them, and they must not intermarry with you, because they will turn you away from Me to their gods.”^(A) Solomon was deeply attached to these women and loved them.

⁴ When Solomon was old, his wives seduced him to follow other gods. He was not completely devoted to Yahweh his God, as his father David had been.^(A)

² Indeed, the Israelite men^[a] have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed^(A) has become mixed with the surrounding peoples.^(B) The leaders^[b] and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!”^(C)

²⁵ I rebuked them, cursed them, beat some of their men, and pulled out their hair.^(A) I forced them to take an oath^(B) before God and said: “You must not give your daughters in marriage to their sons or take their daughters as wives for your sons or yourselves!^(C)
